India has approved US chipmaker Qualcomm Inc.’s (QCOM) proposals to invest in four local joint ventures, which were formed to offer wireless broadband services, Dow Jones Newswires reports. The approval will help Qualcomm to enter India’s still nascent wireless broadband segment, at a time when the government has been pushing to increase broadband Internet usage in a country where just over 10 million of its 1.2 billion people have access to such connectivity. The four companies will offer wireless broadband Internet services in different parts of India–Delhi, Mumbai, Kerala and Haryana. Qualcomm said in August that it will invest $164.3 million combined in the four companies.

NASHVILLE — Gov. Phil Bredesen, the titular head of the Democratic Party in Tennessee, won a favorable rating from 74 percent of Tennesseans in a statewide poll commissioned by the Tennessee Newspaper Network and WBIR-TV, Channel 10.
