With so many options for you to select from, including many cost ranges for Internet depending on speed and services type, let’s break down the various types of High-Speed broadband solutions.

DSL (Digital subscriber line)

DSL is  technology that provides transmission over the wires of your local telephone network. DSL can be used on the exact same line as your home telephone service. DSL speeds often can vary in ranges from 128 Kbps to 3 Mbps and are normally slower than cable Internet speeds. With over 28 million nationwide subscribers, DSL is only close second to cable broadband in Internet subscriber reach.

Naked DSL

Naked DSL is not what you think it is a type of broadband connection where a phone line is not necessary. The only provider nationwide at the moment to offer this service is AT&T, although Verizon does provide Naked DSL in some locations of the country. Verizon has over the last few years invested heavily in FIOS (fiber optic service).

Cable Broadband

Cable Internet is a service provided by your local cable television access company. Normally providers will offer bundle packages that include phone, TV and Internet to make it easy for the customer to bundle services that offer a good discount rate. Cable broadband is also faster than a DSL connection and much more reliable. Comcast which is based in Chicago, Illinois is the largest cable provider in the United States.

Satellite Broadband

Satellite Internet service is usually your very last option if your in need of a high-speed connection for home or your business. Usually a customer will order satellite broadband if they live in a remote or rural area or don’t have access to DSL or cable Internet services. Another major reason for less reliability is that often sudden inclement weather may disconnect your high speed connection for an extended period of time until the weather clears up around you.

The proper way to locate the best provider of Internet for your needs at a good price, is to shop around with more than one provider. DSL, Satellite and Cable Internet providers are competing very hard for your business in this competitive environment, so let them earn it and keep your business!
